This workshop will focus on waterlilies and glass and their reflections in water: Water can act like glass and give an almost perfect reflection of the object or distort the objects due to movement of the surface. During this workshop students will create a realistic painting of waterlilies and a glass globe floating in water. They will learn how to paint the dark, textured water that will emphasize the waterlilies and glass globe as they reflect the sun, using methods including lifting, layering, and wet-on-wet painting. Students will paint the Artist’s image of waterlilies and glass globes. Drawing will be provided. Class structure: Students will paint one painting for three days, as Lorraine works in a realistic manner and paintings typically can take 20 to 40 hours depending on how detailed they are. The painting is 14"x14" and we will work through the painting by starting with the waterlilies and glass float masked. The background will be painted first. Then we will remove the mask and start painting the lilies and glass. We may not get to every part of the painting during the three days. Lorraine will show how to do the different objects and techniques for them. Lorraine will video the end of her painting when she is back home and provide the video to the participants. That way, you will see how she finishes the painting, if it is not completed during the workshop. Lorraine always encourages those taking workshops or classes to think of your painting as a study. It takes some of the pressure off. Then later you could use the "study" to paint the painting again at home where you have more time.
