Hike and Sketch at Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve, 3901 Alpine Rd, La Honda

For those traveling to Russian Ridge/Alpine Pond paintsite, be advised of the Saratoga Creek bridge construction on State Route 9.  The roadway could be closed or have one lane traffic control. The advisory pertains to painters residing in South or Central San Jose. Please check your route carefully. The detours routes are very windy.

At the Russia Russia Ridge Open Space Preserve hikers will see a range of landscapes including ridge vistas, expansive meadows and wildflowers. Hikers will meet at the Russian parking lot. Those who wish sit and paint in one location can set up at the David C. Daniels Nature Center on Alpine Pond, a short walk from the parking lot via the tunnel under Alpine Rd. Hikers will take the Ridge Trail stopping to sketch along the way. We plan to return to the parking area between 12:30 am to 1 pm via the same route.   

Washroom facilities at the parking lot. Pack light, bring sun protection, a portable stool and a snack. Dress in layers because it could be much cooler at the top of the ridge than down in the valley.

Directions to Russian Ridge Parking Lot:  Drive south (up the hill) on Page Mill Rd until it intersects with Skyline Blvd at the top of the ridge.  Continue across Skyline, drive only a few yards, and turn right into the Russian Ridge parking lot.  Hikers meet at the parking lot at 10 to 10:15 am.
