Japantown, San Jose and Japanese American Museum of San Jose (JAMSJ) 

Nihonmachi - Japantown San Jose is the last of three authentic Japantowns in the US. Japantown housed other Pacific Rim immigrants in the 19th and 20th centuries.  Without an established community pioneers found refuge in San Jose's Chinatown (called "Heinlenville" by locals after John Heinlen, the man who built it). As an Asian town center, Chinatown offered familiar lodging, entertainment, restaurants and shops providing comfort and safety. 

We have arranged for special access to the shaded agricultural exhibit at the Japanese American Museum https://www.jamsj.org/agricultural-exhibit from 9 am until noon.  We are able to explore the museum when the museum opens to the public at noon.

Other areas to  explore are Roy’s Station  https://roysstation.com/,  Buddhist Temple, or outside the Japanese American Museum of San Jose  https://www.jamsj.org/visit and historic Jackson Street. 

Directions: Take Hwy 87 exit Taylor Street head east turn right on 5th Street.  Very limited parking for carpools or accessible parking only at the museum.  Metered and free street parking is also available in the historic area.

Attendance: Attendance is free and is open to all SCVWS members.
