Mt Madonna County Park
Join us on a hike to the Henry Miller Estate Ruins in Mount Madonna County Park. This 4,605-acre park is dominated by the redwood forest characteristic of the Santa Cruz Mountain range. A 1-mile self-guided nature trail winds around the redwoods and ruins of cattle baron Henry Miller's summer home. The scope of the estate remains impressive. Occupying a gentle slope lined with planted evergreens, multiple foundation footings and masonry partitions outline the five structures built between 1890 and 1902.
Directions: The park is located on Highway 152 (Hecker Pass Highway), 10 miles west of Gilroy. From the east, use Highway 101, and take the Highway 152 West exit. From the west, use Highway 1, and take the Highway 152 East exit. The main entrance to the park is located at the summit of Highway 152 at Pole Line Road (a sharp turn north, so look for it). To find us at the meeting spot - follow Pole Line Road for about a mile, purchase $6 day use at Kiosk pay station. Continue to the Amphitheatre and turn right to park in either the Hilltop Parking lot or the lot adjacent to Henry Miller Trailhead. A short walk to the ruins and redwoods is on the Upper or Lower Miller trail.
Attendance: Attendance is free and is open to all SCVWS members.
