SCVWS Exhibit Rules
Artist Participation
- Any SCVWS member in good standing (dues paid as of the registration deadline) is eligible to enter member shows.
Responsibilities of Participants
- Participating artists are expected to help with the tasks related to putting on the show.
- At the Annual Show, each artist will work in the gallery one morning or afternoon shift during the show, or equivalent other duties towards putting on the show.
- For the Annual Show, each artist will contribute food and/or drink towards the reception or contribute $5 towards the purchase of refreshments.
- Each artist will send out at least 10 invitations to the exhibit.
- When paintings are delivered by someone other than the artist, that person is expected to sign up the artist for all responsibilities.
Fees (to be paid at Receiving)
- The entry fee for the Annual Show is $15 for one painting. Fees will cover publicity and awards. In addition, Artists will have the choice of contributing a dish or $5 towards refreshments at the reception.
- Small show fees are typically $5 for one painting. Fees can increase when a venue requires a rental fee and/or when SCVWS opts to purchase refreshments.
Artwork Eligibility
- The artwork must be primarily watermedia.
- Unless otherwise specified, artwork may be up to full-sheet size.
- Artwork should be your own original work, not done in a classroom situation under supervision. Independently produced class work critiqued by a professional is OK. Direct copies of copyrighted material are not acceptable, including other artists work, post cards, magazines or other printed material or material from the internet.
- No reproductions, digital or giclee prints.
- No diptych, triptych or other multiple works.
Presentation of Artwork
- All submitted work must be properly framed and ready to hang, and safe for our volunteers to handle.
- Frame: Required. High quality, plain metal or wood.
- Frame size must not exceed 40" on any side.
- Mat: Required. Color and value of mat at the discretion of the artist. (No restrictions) For floated artwork, use spacers to hold away from glazing.
- Glazing: Plexiglass (acrylic plastic) required. No glass.
- Wire: Stretched tight and securely fastened to conventional flat holders (D-rings). No sawtooths, clamps or screw eyes. Raw ends must be taped.
- Labeling: Identify artwork on the back with title, artist name, telephone number and/or email address.
Insurance
- Insurance is the responsibility of the artist. SCVWS does not insure art on display at member shows. Although every care will be taken to protect your artwork, we cannot be held responsible for damaged art, frames or glazing.
- For the Annual Show, the Triton Museum provices theft insurance up to a value of $1,000. Be sure to provide an insurance value, even if your painting is not for sale.
Sales
- Commission is to be paid to the venue at their discretion, and with SCVWS Board approval.
- SCVWS does not take a commission for artwork sold, although we do request that you tell us about it!
- Artwork must not be removed from the exhibit prior to the scheduled pick-up time, after the show closes. Penalty applies.
- When working a gallery shift, all efforts should be made to complete sales of the art. A brochure with a list of prices and artist contact information will be available at the desk so that prospective buyers can contact the artist directly.
